Hosta Stop
The Hosta Stop is a place that you can come escape and enjoy a garden with hundreds of varieties to choose from to take home to your own garden!
It all began with our love for gardening and landscaping. We, Mike and Kelly Giese, like many, couldn’t wait for spring to get in our garden and work in our yard. Many years ago on Father’s Day the kids and I gave Mike hostas for his Father’s Day gift. It was fun to pick out hostas with special names, making it fun to buy them as much as enjoying them. We started with Pineapple Upside Down, Elvis Lives, Spilt Milk, and our first mini hosta, Blue Mouse Ears! After that we were hooked and our hobby of hosta collecting began. We traveled to many greenhouses and hosta gardens around Wisconsin.
In 2012 Mike said “I think we should sell hostas for others who love collecting like us”. We began our homework and received our nursery license. We were officially the “Hosta Stop”. The name was decided when we thought of our own travels. We could never pass up a sign that said “hostas for sale!” You just Hosta Stop! Sounds corny but it was catchy!
As a family we all worked together to open the Hosta stop. Everyone in our family from grandmas to grandchildren enjoys being a part of the Hosta Stop! Even the weeding! We started out small with about a hundred varieties our first year and by our second year we had grown well over 300 varieties. As of 2015 we were over 550 varieties, and it keeps growing along with our passion and love to share the beautiful hosta species with everyone. Every year there are new gardens added and new ideas to take away. We have garden clubs, societies, and school groups come to tour. We are always happy to talk with you about hostas!
There are thousands and thousands of varieties of hostas. Look closely at the detail in a leaf or flower, and the beauty they hold, each having their own unique character.
We have a dream to collect as many hostas in our lifetime as possible for one end result, to enjoy every single one! We welcome everyone to visit our Hosta Stop gardens. Thank you and we hope you enjoy them as well.
